John 16:23 (AMP)
In that day you will not [need to] ask Me about anything. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name [as My representative], He will give you.
As new creatures in Christ, we are ambassadors of Christ. We are the representatives of the Master here on earth. We have received as an inheritance, the glory, power, mode of operation, mission, and assignment of the Lord Jesus as it relates with the earth and her inhabitants.
To be effective in our call, we must operate as our Master did; and we know that prayer was part of His secret for the successful accomplishment of His task. We find clearly written through the pages of scripture that Jesus regularly communicated with the Father and that most (if not all) of His recorded prayers were about the accomplish of His assignment on earth. The only record we have of the Master spending all night in prayer was just before He choose His twelve disciples (men through whom the gospel would continue at His ascension). It was always about His assignment.
When He taught His disciples to pray, the very first request after thanksgiving was ‘thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven’ (Matthew 6: 10). The very first request was about the Father’s assignment (the mission we have received to reconcile the world to the Father).
When we pray, we must pray with the understanding that we are representatives of Christ. This means our communication with the Father must also be about the accomplishment of our assignment to reconcile the world to God.
If our prayer life or majority of our communications with the Father is about ourselves, be it spiritual requests or material things, then we are missing the major point of prayer. Prayer, first and foremost, is about accomplishing the tasks and demands of the ministry of reconciliation.
I am an ambassador of Christ. I am a representative of Christ. I have the ministry of reconciliation and I choose to live with this consciousness. My prayers or communications with the Father are done with this understanding. I choose to pray as a representative of Christ. Hallelujah!!
Matthew 6: 9 & 10 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
2 Corinthians 5: 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We [as Christ’s personal representatives] beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor [now offered you] and be reconciled to God. (AMPC)
