The general/common perception about God is that He is a stern All-powerful being who does not only have very high standards and can not stand the moral (and all -round) decadence in the world, but He also (severely) punishes those who do not live up to His standards.
It is no surprise this is the general perception of God considering that for many years the people He has sent to represent Him have painted this image of Him. However, this representation of God is very far from the truth.
Yes, God cannot stand the decadence/evil in the world*, but His response is not anger, judgment and punishment.
Ask the least religious person about sin and they'll relate it with bad/wrong actions or thoughts. However, sin has nothing to do with actions or thoughts. It's about only one thing.
God does not respond to the sin/decadence problem by punishing the sinner/defaulter. His response is to change the sinner through love and grace.
Grace means God is not counting your wrongs against you. Rather He loves you unconditionally and is patiently waiting & hoping you would accept the expression/token of His love. He is is extraordinarily patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. ( 2 Peter 3: 9 AMP)
